Circular Economy means collaborating

20. 1 .2023, Martina Campora

There are many benefits derived by the transition from a linear to a more circular economy. Starting from environmental benefits such as reduced extraction of virgin raw materials through the use of reusable or recyclable materials to social benefits such as the creation of new jobs. The circular economy would enable consumers to obtain more durable products with the consequent increase in quality of life.

In order to move as fast as possible towards a more circular economy, it is necessary to join forces and try to cooperate as much as possible. This is why one of Cyrkl’s core values lies in favouring collaboration over competition because only by acting together can we make the economy more circular.

In this regard, there are several networks that aim to connect actors involved in the circular economy of which Cyrkl has become a member, the most recent of which are listed below:

ICESP

Supported by ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development), ICESP is in charge of representing and promoting circular economy-based projects such as Cyrkl. As a matter of fact, ICESP represents the Italian branch of ECESP (European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform), a joint initiative of the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee aimed at connecting as many realities as possible committed to the circular economy at European level.

One of the main objectives of ICESP is to allow the actors involved in the circular economy to get to know each other and connect with each other in order to increasingly expand the possibility of making the Italian economy circular.

Circular Economy Network:

Supported by the Foundation for Sustainable Development, the Circular Economy Network (CEN) is committed to supporting and encouraging activities aimed at achieving a more circular economy. In addition to disseminating studies and information on circularity, CEN is committed to measuring the attainment of sustainable targets at national and European level, for example through the annual ‘Circular Economy Report’. In addition, it studies and investigates potential barriers to achieving circularity in order to seek strategies and regulatory solutions to eliminate these difficulties.

Buy Circular

Founded by Alessio Ercoli in 2020 Buy Circular intersects projects and initiatives based on the circular economy. The platform aims to bring together supply and demand for products and services based on the value of circularity. From remanufactured clothing to products and services to optimise waste management such as Cyrkl, Buy Circular aims to connect sustainable producers and consumers.

Mercato Circolare

Mercato Circolare is based on a clear mission statement based on a quote from the De Rerum Natura "Thus one thing never ceases to be born from another and life is given to none in ownership, to all in use."  To facilitate the transition from a linear to a circular economy, this platform acts as a link between companies, institutions and conscious people.

In addition, Mercato Circolare offers services to support companies to make them more circular, including the involvement of stakeholders in the world of circularity, measurement and orientation towards corporate circularity, but also support in communicating sustainability values.

Mercato Circolare also disseminates news related to social and educational events based on the circular economy.

Atlante dell’economia circolare

Among the various environmental communication activities of economiacircolare.com is an interactive map: the Atlas of the Circular Economy. This digital map brings together a hundred Italian companies founded on the principles of reuse, re-use and recycling. The 100 companies in question range from the waste sector (18% of the companies, including Cyrkl) to the food sector (10%) to furniture and construction (14%).  The project was realised thanks to a collaboration between Ecodom (Italian Consortium focused on WEEE recovery and recycling) and CDCA, the first Documentation Centre on Environmental Conflicts in Italy.

Circular Economy Club

Local action for global impact. This is the slogan of CEC, a global network connecting circular economy projects in 140 countries.

Founded in London in 2014 with a clear mission: to reach an international community where the linear economy model is uprooted to make room for circular cities. For this reason, the network supports companies free of charge in their promotion of events on the platform, so as to spread circular knowledge and initiatives as much as possible.

The platform also has a section aimed at connecting demand and supply of jobs in sustainability-related jobs worldwide.

Finally, the Circular Economy Club offers free services to support companies on their journey towards the circular economy.
